An export\nsale may be negotiated which has \u2018hidden\u2019 consequences for the business in\nmeeting trade compliance requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Examples of where internal communication is vital can be seen in the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>A UK exporter negotiates an export sale with a\ncountry that the European Union maintains a preferential trade agreement with;\nthe sales price is based on zero tariffs under the trade agreement when goods\nenter the overseas country. What however if the exporting business is unable to\nmeet the origin threshold negotiated in the trade agreement?<\/li><li>An urgent export order is negotiated for\nimmediate export delivery overseas, for a controlled good. As this is the first\ntime that the company has traded outside of the European Union they are unaware\nof the need for an Open General Export License, and unaware of the timescales\ninvolved.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These are but two examples, there are more. What they do\nshow is the importance of internal communication and the importance of\nknowledge of trade procedures, ideally throughout the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The current impacts from Coronavirus if anything increase the importance of communication, for example in the event of;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>Changing suppliers   <\/td><td>Selling to new customer and countries who have an urgent demand for your product<\/td><td>Using different materials and component parts in the production process<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This has many impacts, to mention just a few possibilities <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>End use<\/li><li>Export controls<\/li><li>Rules of Origin<\/li><li>Commodity codes<\/li><li>Tariff rates<\/li><li>New trade routes to book with the freight\nforwarder<\/li><li>Incoterms applicable<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As noted above communication is key, internally as well as externally<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We would welcome your thoughts on other areas that a\nbusiness should discuss and agree during internal communications.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In fast moving businesses it is not always easy to communicate internally details of all import and export transactions.
