AEO is a status and a certified standard authorisation issued by customs administrations in the UK and EU, to certify that an economic operator has met certain standards in relation to safety and security, systems to manage commercial records, and compliance with customs rules.

There are two types of the status:

• Authorised Economic Operator customs simplification (AEOC)
• Authorised Economic Operator security and safety (AEOS)
